Questions on English Language Learners:
- Question 1: How can after school programs or summer enrichment programs be helpful to ELL students?
- Question 2: Through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), how can the funding be used to address the needs of English Language Learners at the high school level?
- Question 3: How can a state and/or district provide high quality ELL instruction; do you have recommended resources for states and/or districts to better provide high quality instruction for ELL students?
- Question 4: What types of mediums do you use for communication with families of your students, and how often?
- Question 5: Can you provide examples of how you allocate resources to students with the highest needs?
- Question 6: What is the role of a superintendent in motivating and providing useful methods to principals and/or teachers to help them meet the needs of ELL students? Do you have specific resources that were helpful to do this?
- Question 7: What technology programs, applications, software, and/or additional learning materials are available to help ELL students catch-up to their grade-level peers?
- Question 8: Do you feel that a “pure sheltered” or a “double described” class is best for the English Language Learner?
- Question 9: Some districts have set up "newcomer" programs or special classrooms for these kids for one or two years, to help them get ready to do the high school level work. What do research and best practices suggest for these students?
- Question 10: Could you please share your Reading curriculum? What methods and strategies do you use to integrate ELL students into your mainstream programs?
- Question 11: Do you think it’s better to keep entry and beginning level ELL students separated by proficiency level or to combine them for their ELL classes?
