Glory Kibbel
Interim Director of Choice and Equity, School Choice Programs and Services Division, Minnesota Department of Education

gloryGlory Kibbel is the Interim Director of Choice and Equity for the School Choice Programs and Services Division at the Minnesota Department of Education and will provide a state-level administrator’s point of view on some of the practical implementation steps related to the strategies presented in the Webinar. Prior to her current position, Glory was the Alternative Programs Specialist at the Minnesota Department of Education for seven years, providing guidance to alternative programs throughout the state of Minnesota.

 

Camilla Lehr
Coordinator, Dropout Prevention, Retention, and Graduation Initiative,
Minnesota Department of Education

Camilla lehrDr. Lehr is Coordinator of the Dropout Prevention, Retention, and Graduation Initiative at the Minnesota Department of Education. She has over 20 years of experience in education including work as a school psychologist and university instructor. Prior to coordinating the Graduation Initiative, she directed the Alternative Schools Research Project, a federal grant which studied alternative schools across the nation and the role they play in preventing dropout, providing quality education for students at risk, and serving students with disabilities.

 

Russell W. Rumberger
Professor, Gervirtz Graduate School of Education, University of California, Santa Barbara
Director, University of California Linguistic Minority Research Institute

RussellDr. Russell W. Rumberger is a Professor in the Gervirtz Graduate School of Education at the University of California, Santa Barbara and Director of the University of California Linguistic Minority Research Institute. He conducts academic and policy research in two areas: education and work, and the schooling of disadvantaged students. His research in the area of education and work has focused on the economic payoffs of schooling and on educational requirements of work. His research on at-risk students has focused on several topics: the causes, consequences, and solutions of English language learners; and the impact of school segregation on students. Dr. Rumberger also serves on the editorial board of four journals: American Educational Research Journal, Teacher College Record, Economics of Education Review, and the Sociology of Education.

 

Rebecca Powell
Director of Outreach, National High School Center
Senior Communications and Outreach Specialist, AIR

Becky Powell Becky Powell is a Senior Communications and Outreach Specialist at the American Institutes for Research (AIR). In this capacity, Ms. Powell works with educators, researchers, and families to identify research-based practices and strategies. She is experienced in managing strategic outreach campaigns, including overseeing constituency relations, designing and managing Web sites, and coordinating and presenting at national education conferences. At AIR, she serves as the Director of Outreach for the National High School Center and manages the day-to-day outreach and communications efforts for the What Works Clearinghouse (WWC), an initiative of the U.S. Department of Education's Institute of Education Sciences to provide evidence of effectiveness of educational interventions to educators, policymakers, researchers, and the public.
